According to The National News, Abu Dhabi has recently entered the artificial intelligence (AI) market with its own language model to compete with programs like OpenAI and DeepMind. Created by the Technological Innovation Institute(TII), a government-backed research center, Falcon LLM is an AI program that offers a wide range of applications, from chatbots and language translation to content development and sentiment analysis.
Although Falcon LLM is not yet commercially available and a release date was not given, the program will be targeting government agencies, start-ups, and the private sector. This new program, based on The National News report, will be beneficial to major tech players as it will cut down labor costs and increase efficiency.
CEO of TII, Dr. Ray O. Johnson, told Zawya that “the year 2023 is turning out to be the year of AI. Falcon LLM is a landmark announcement for us, but this is just the beginning. By the end of the year, we will be sharing news on a huge increase in capabilities in this space.”
In an effort to praise the UAE’s technological breakthroughs, Ebtesam Almazrouei, a director in the AI research lab at TII, told The National News that “We are committed to making the UAE a key player in the global arena of advanced technology.”
