Eid has long been portrayed as a moment of reunion, reflection, and emotional tension between tradition and modern life. On screen, it becomes a powerful backdrop where families reconnect, cultures clash, and identity is quietly tested. From diasporic experiences in the West to family dynamics in the heart of the Arab world, these stories all circle around one idea: Eid is never just a simple gathering, but a moment where personal stories unfold, generations collide, and heritage resurfaces no matter where you are.

Ramadan America (2026)

Film

Ramadan America is a heartfelt, groundbreaking anthology film centered on five distinct stories exploring the Muslim American experience during Ramadan and Eid. Starring five American Muslim families, it captures diverse cultural nuances, alongside intimate narratives of family, love, and belonging.

Eid Mubarak (2023)

Short Film

This heartfelt short film explores childhood and Muslim identity through Iman, a young Pakistani girl who goes with her family to buy a goat, following the tradition ahead of Eid al-Adha. She chooses the cutest one and names him Barfi, quickly forming a close bond as she spends all her time with him.

However, she soon discovers that Barfi is being raised for sacrifice. Determined to save him, Iman comes up with a plan before Eid arrives. Along the way, with the support of her family and friends, she begins to understand the deeper meaning of sacrifice and the values behind Eid al-Adha.

Crashing Eid (2023)

Series

Unlike traditional celebratory portrayals, Crashing Eid brings a comedic and dramatic twist to the holiday setting. The series follows a British-Pakistani man who unexpectedly enters a Saudi family’s Eid celebration, disrupting expectations, traditions, and carefully maintained family plans.

The story revolves around how this unexpected arrival forces the characters to confront cultural differences, family expectations, and questions of acceptance during a time meant for unity and joy. Eid here becomes a point where love, conflict, and misunderstanding collide under the same festive roof, turning celebration into a chaotic but heartfelt exploration of modern multicultural relationships.

American Eid (2021)

Short Film

Part of Disney’s Launchpad anthology series and written and directed by Aqsa Altaf, American Eid is a heartfelt short film that follows a young Muslim girl navigating identity, belonging, and tradition while growing up in the United States.

As she prepares for Eid, she struggles with feeling different at school while trying to hold on to her cultural and religious traditions at home. Through moments of family warmth, celebration, and self-discovery, the film captures the emotional balance between two worlds. Ultimately, it highlights Eid as a moment of pride, connection, and embracing one’s identity in a multicultural environment.

Across all these titles, Eid is more than a backdrop; it’s a narrative engine. Whether told through diaspora coming-of-age stories, family dramas, or comedic disruptions, each project reflects how the holiday carries both celebration and complexity. Together, they show that Eid on screen is evolving: no longer just about tradition, but about identity, migration, and the emotional spaces in between.
