Sheikh Mohammed Transforms UAE Education Through Privatization of 28 Public Schools
On Monday, his Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum made an impactful announcement that over 28 public schools across the UAE will become private for 3 years and take on an educational model dubbed Al Ajyal. Following the new model, these schools will be run by top performing UAE private education groups wherein new teachers, staff and management will be hired to work in the selected 28 institutions. These private school groups will include entities like Taaleem, Aldar Education and Bloom Education.
This major decision was made following a cabinet meeting held in Abu Dhabi with the aim to “pass on experiences and diversify options for parents” as tweeted by his Highness. Just last year, ten schools have already made the shift and applied the new model that combines the UAE national curriculum with the American one.
In this type of system, subjects like Arabic language, Islamic education, moral education and social studies are given under the supervision of the Emirates Schools Establishment while the American curriculum is applied to courses like maths and science which are taught by highly qualified teachers hired specially to give the courses.
With the new decision, by the upcoming 2024-25 academic year, a total of 28 schools would have implemented this model.
