Sheikh Issues Fatwa Allowing Men to Abandon Raped Wife
“You can leave your wives to be raped if your life is in danger”
This is the newly released fatwa by Sheikh Yasser Borhami, a Salafist preacher and Vice President of Al-Daawa Movement, the Salafist Islamic movement that helped create the Nour Party in 2011.
Yes, you read correctly – this man publicly compared getting raped with getting mugged and stated that if a man feels he’s danger, then he is not at all obliged to protect his wife but in fact, should do the exact opposite and run away.
Sheikh Yasser Borhami is the same extremist that issued another fatwa earlier this year stating that it’s okay to murder one’s wife if she’s committing adultery.
First off, I’m not a religious person at all but I do know the basics of Islam. So for a prominent “Sheikh”, someone who supposedly knows a lot about Islam and holds a lot of influence over people, to come up with this utterly ridiculous and infuriating fatwa is appalling. How the thought even crossed his mind is bewildering.
The fact that he even went public with this is so called fatwa of his, is insane and it’s remarkable that he is so confident with his ignorance. It’s disrespectful to women and rape victims and what is even more ridiculous is that it goes against EVERYTHING Islam stands for.
Islam calls for mercy and protection of those who are in need. It calls for kindness and bravery. Prophet Mohammed once said that “whoever dies for honor dies a martyr’s death.” How is running away commendable nowadays?
Al-Azhar officials shunned both fatwas due to the fact that they have no Islamic basis. Also, the Islamic Research Council went on record saying that there are no religious or common laws that allow the killing of spouses who have committed adultery.
I have no idea where this schmuck “sheikh” gets his information from but in my humble opinion he needs to keep his illiterate mouth shut or say something rooted in logic for a change instead of barking out fatwas like he’s some sort of Islamic psychic.
WE SAID THIS: America’s first openly gay imam lives proudly in Detroit. Read about him here.
