Saudi Arabia’s New Initiative to Provide 60,000 Free Wi-Fi Hotspots Across the Kingdom
Since technology is a fundamental pillar in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the kingdom is heavily investing in boosting its ICT sector. Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) initiative will provide 60,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots in a number of public locations across the kingdom, including hospitals, malls, public parks, and the two Holy Mosques for up to two hours per day in a number of Saudi cities.
CITC governor Dr. Mohammad bin Saud Al-Tamimi said in a statement, “This initiative reflects the development of the ICT infrastructure in the kingdom and contributes to achieving CITC’s strategic mission to enable the kingdom’s transformation into a digital society.”
Implemented through a collaboration with the kingdom’s telecom providers, the initiative will continue to oversee the execution, especially during the introductory phase, as they’re currently unifying the network’s name for these free Wi-Fi points, facilitating user entry, and providing coverage maps to showcase all free Wi-Fi points across the kingdom.
