Reflecting The Diversity Of Egyptian Culture: The Grand Egyptian Museum Set To Open This Year

Set to open this year, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be inaugurated according to the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri’s statement to Egypt Independent. With more than 100,000 historical artifacts, including the entirety of King Tut’s treasure collection and various prehistoric objects tracing the fascinating history of Egypt, this is the culmination of nearly two decades of planning and is expected to be the largest archaeological museum complex in the world.

The museum, built close to the Giza Pyramids, includes a colossal entryway made up of numerous bright angular panels with hieroglyphs displaying the names of kings and queens throughout Egyptian history. The museum will also be designed by the Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects.

Boss Hunting gives an estimation that the Egyptian government anticipates that the Grand Egyptian Museum will receive about 15,000 visitors each day. Five million visitors annually are roughly half of The Louvre’s previous annual high of 10.2 million visitors, which was set in 2018.

Famous Artifacts

One of the items you might anticipate seeing in the Grand Egyptian Museum is the Great Staircase. The Royal Image and Gods and Kings are the two main themes of The Great Staircase. As a result, it will be split into four parts. The king’s representation in the three-dimensional statuary sculptures will be the theme of the first segment. There will also be more than 5,000 objects from the collection of the golden pharaoh Tutankhamun. It will be on view for the first time in a space of 7000 square meters inside the Grand Egyptian Museum.
