For the Record: Time Travel
- The 2014 Grammy Award nominations were announced this week, and rap is the clear winner: Jay-Z leads with nine nominations, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell follow with seven nominations each. Pharrell gets a double nod for Record of the Year, once for guesting on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and another for his contribution to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”.
- Billy Joel held a press conference last Tuesday at Madison Square Garden to announce a residency at the Garden, including a show each month “for as long as there’s demand”. The first show will take place in January.
- In this week’s new videos Daft Punk take us back to the 80s in “Instant Crush” featuring Julian Casablancas:
- A$AP Mob bring us the 90s-reminiscent “Trillmatic”, complete with Bulls jerseys and flip phones:
- And Broken Bells go both retro and sci fi in “Holding On for Life”:
- Katy Perry has been named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and will focus on empowering young people around the world to speak about difficulties that they face. Perry had stated that her first UNICEF trip to Madagascar inspired her to write her latest single “Unconditionally”.
- Childish Gambino‘s album Because the Internet is being released this coming week, and is already streaming on iTunes. The rapper also shared an obscure 75-page screenplay (which you can read on becausetheinter.net) peppered with Internet-friendly dialogue and emojis to accompany the album.
