2 Hours Long Power Cut at Cairo International Airport Causes Outrage
Last weekend, everyone has been on edge after our country has once again failed at something extremely, well, basic. Last Thursday, a two-hour-long electricity outage took place at Cairo International Airport’s Terminal 3. A security catastrophe like no other — especially that emergency generators failed to supply electricity during those two long hours.
This situation is so much bigger than unfortunate flight delays and non-working air conditions. This meant that there was no camera coverage for anything going on inside the airport. Anyone who has already checked in their luggage could have easily left amidst the chaos. Anyone could have left a bomb inside. The airport system could have easily been damaged.
Photos of a pitch dark airport have caused outrage across the country. The thing is you never know when the consequences of the electricity outage will slap us in the face. This is horrifying and is just another sad day for our tourism and security.
News have been circulating that Prosecutor-General, Nabil Sadiq, has ordered the arrest of 11 electricity maintenance officials to be investigated about the unfortunate event. North Cairo Electric Company is expected to submit a report regarding what caused the outage and the failure of emergency generators. Hopefully, the situation gets sorted out soon.
