Cairo’s October Bridge Will Be Closed Every Weekend for the next 2 Months

The 6th of October bridge across the Nile choked with traffic in a Cairo rush-hour February 20. A spate of fatal accidents in January has galvanised the government into rethinking its traffic strategy to try to bring order to the Egyptian capital's chaotic roads.

The Traffic Authorities of Giza Governorate has just announced that it will start working on the reconstruction of the 6th of October Bridge next Thursday and the campaign will continue for the next two months, according to Youm7 reports.

This campaign is part of Giza Governorate’s initiative under the title “7elwa ya balady” to repair all main bridges in town. October Bridge will be closed from ElNil Street’s ramp to ElBatal Ahmed AbdelAziz from next Thursday, 12 AM, till the following Sunday, 6 AM with no traffic transfers.

El-Mokawloon El-Arab are the engineers behind October Bridge’s reconstructions; they’re going to be fixing and renewing the metal breaks leading to Giza and passing through Downtown.

Back to School season is upon us, and with all its school shopping – from uniforms to stationary supplies, we can’t imagine what’s going to happen. October Bridge happens to be the busiest in Cairo since it connects Eastern Cairo to its West; we wonder what’s going to happen between these days in which the Bridge will be closed.

WE SAID THIS: Drive safe ya gama3a.
