Palestinians Speak Out On Israeli’s Infamous Iron Wall

Israel is celebrating the end of its three-and-a-half-year project: the infamous iron wall. Israeli authorities have built an iron wall around Gaza; or to be more precise, between Hamas and the Israeli citizens. According to the Defence Minister, Benny Gantz, “the barrier will provide Israeli citizens a sense of security.” But really, is Israel’s Iron Wall protecting Israeli people, or is it keeping Palestinians in?

Via Twitter.

Building the wall cost over $1.1 billion; it extends over 65 kilometres and is six meters high. Israel’s project is an advanced barrier and a smart fence that’s equipped with sensors, radars, and cameras to monitor its surroundings.

Historically, in 2018 and 2019, Hamas has protested against the blockade around the borders of Gaza, leading to multiple Palestinian and Israeli fatalities and injuries. Moreover, Hamas has used secret underground tunnels before to enter Gaza. Currently, it would be impossible for anyone to get past the iron wall, thanks to the surveillance system and technology protecting Israeli residents.

In a celebration ceremony, Benny Gantz said, “This barrier, a creative, technological project of the first order, denies Hamas one of the capabilities that it tried to develop and puts a wall of iron, sensors, and concrete between it and the residents of the south.”

How Palestine supporters are taking this:

While Israel is celebrating yet another supposed accomplishment, people are raging. Some have expressed their disapproval of the wall, or even straight-up criminalized it. Here’s what people thought of Israel’s iron wall.

The Jewish Voice for Peace, an Instagram account that fights for liberation and justice in Palestine, wrote in an Instagram post, “The new Israeli wall around Gaza amounts to collective punishment for the region’s 1.8 million Palestinian residents, whom the Israeli government has held captive, mercilessly bombed, and systematically impoverished through its 14-year-long blockade.”

You don’t need to be an anti-zionist, a Palestinian or an Arab to see this for what it truly is.
