Official: Amr Warda Suspended From National Team, to Miss Rest of African Cup

Since the beginning of the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt, the entire country has been talking about nothing except football. This week, an incident happened that shifted everyone’s focus from the matches to the players. Egyptian model Merhan Keller claimed that she was harassed on Instagram by several players from the Egypt squad and posted several screenshots as evidence, with one of them showing Amr Warda sliding into her DMs.

Since then, social media has been divided between people who have just been making memes and jokes about the girl, and few others who’ve been criticizing and accusing Warda of sexual harassment. Some thought he should face disciplinary action, while others thought that it wasn’t much of a big deal and any punishment would add unnecessary pressure on the national team, citing the stress they’re already under from the tournament.

However, according to the official website of the competition’s organizing committee, Warda has just been suspended from the National Team. President of the Egyptian Football Association, Hany Abo Reeda, decided to suspend Amr Warda after consulting with the coaching and administrative teams. Now Egypt will continue the competition with only 22 players.

WE SAID THIS: Let’s all hope that the incident won’t affect the performance of the team for the rest of the tournament.
