Names We Would Like To See Banned in Egypt
Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry has banned 50 names they argue contradict the culture or religion of the Kingdom, according to reports by local media.
Parents in the KSA will reportedly no longer be able to call their children by monickers such as Linda, Alice, Elaine or Binyamin (Arabic for Benjamin) after the Civil Affairs department at the ministry issued a list of the prohibited names.
So, we thought, since countries are allowed to ban names, here is our open letter and call for action to the Egyptian government to ban these following names, because our society can gosh darn well do without them!
1. Dina – Because there are enough Dinas out there to last a lifetime and the only Dina we want to hear or better yet see is the belly dancer
2. Sawra – Because ain’t that just precious
3. Morsy – Because you know your child will be hated for the rest of their life with a name like that
4. Kawsar – Because what does that even mean?!?!
5. Enshera7 – Because we’ll always connect it to the saying “Eshkhory ya Enshera7 3al el 3ada weh el ra7”
6. Bakinam – Because who needs the letter “P” when you have the letter “B”
7. SISI – BECAUSE THERE IS ONLY ONE AND WILL ONLY EVER BE ONE! (sarcasm intended)
And since we’re on a roll, let’s get rid of these as well:
- Shakinaz
- Ebtesam
- Bassant
- Bahig
- Ebtihal
- Berryhan
- Sawsan
- Shewikar
- Tafida
- Badreya
- Maisa
- Shawkeya
- Sherihan
- Botros
- Bolo
- Felopateer
WE SAID THIS: It does need to be said, though, that usually the people with the weirdest, ugliest names are the HOTTEST!
