Missing EgyptAir Flight MS804 Crashed Into Mediterranean Sea
EgyptAir flight MS804, missing since early this morning, crashed into the Mediterranean Sea, French President Francois Hollande announced at a press conference.
“We must do everything to find crash debris,” he said. “We have also the duty to know everything about the causes of what has happened, no hypothesis should be ruled out or preferred.”
A senior Egyptian Civil Aviation source also told Reuters earlier today that “The theory that the plane crashed and fell is now confirmed”, while a Greek aviation source told AFP, “It crashed around 130 nautical miles off the island of Karpathos.”
The plane was en route from Paris to Cairo and was carrying 66 people when it disappeared from radar around 2:30am Cairo time. The crash has not yet been confirmed by official Egyptian government sources or EgyptAir.
Search and rescue operations have been ongoing since the early hours of the morning, with Greece assisting Egyptian efforts by air and sea. France has also offered assistance.
The flight carried 56 passengers, including three children, along with three security officers and seven crew. It was in contact with Greek aviation as it passed over Greece, but disappeared from radio and radar contact roughly 10 miles into Egyptian airspace.
