Macron Lands in Egypt: Cultural Diplomacy & Urgent Talks on Gaza Take Center Stage
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Egypt on Sunday, April 6, for a two-day diplomatic visit focused on the Gaza crisis, humanitarian cooperation, and strengthening bilateral ties with Egypt.
A Cultural Start: Macron & El-Sisi Tour Grand Egyptian Museum

Macron’s visit began with a symbolic stop at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is expected to officially open to the public in July. The museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, will house over 100,000 artifacts, including the full Tutankhamun collection. Macron praised Egypt’s cultural leadership and highlighted France’s continued interest in cultural and tourism collaboration with Cairo.
Later that evening, Macron and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi dined together at Khan El Khalili, the famous traditional market in Cairo, signaling a tone of mutual respect and informal diplomacy ahead of official talks.
High-Level Talks Focus on Gaza Ceasefire, Humanitarian Aid, & Hostage Release

Today, El-Sisi formally received Macron at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, according to Al-Ahram. Their bilateral meeting centered on the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. Both leaders called for an immediate ceasefire, expanded humanitarian corridors, and the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
The leaders reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution as the only path toward lasting peace in the region.
Macron Announces Trilateral Summit With Egypt & Jordan on Gaza Crisis
In a key development, Macron announced a forthcoming summit to be hosted by France with El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, according to AlArabiya News. The summit will focus on coordinating ceasefire efforts, ensuring humanitarian access, and preventing further regional escalation. No date has been officially confirmed, but preparations are reportedly underway.
Visit to El-Arish to Highlight Gaza Humanitarian Efforts
Macron is expected to travel on Tuesday, April 8, to the port city of El-Arish, located about 50 kilometers from the Rafah border crossing with Gaza. There, he will meet with Egyptian humanitarian and security personnel to assess the situation on the ground and reaffirm France’s support for international aid efforts.
The visit reflects deepening Franco-Egyptian cooperation at a time of heightened geopolitical tension.
