LeBron James is taking his talents from the court to the water, joining forces with AlUla. He is diving into a whole new kind of competition: electric boat racing.
Together, they’ve launched Team AlUla Championed in the UIM E1 World Championship, the first-ever racing series featuring all-electric boats.
With a focus on sustainability and innovation, this partnership isn’t just about racing—it’s about making waves, literally and figuratively, on a global scale.
What’s the UIM E1 World Championship?
Imagine high-speed boat racing, but way better for the environment. The E1 Championship by PIF is the first global race series to feature fully electric boats called RaceBirds.
The RaceBirds are designed to blend the glide of birds with Star Wars vibes, bringing the 90’s vision for 2025 to life. The Racebirds zip through tight circuits with co-ed teams in some of the world’s most famous cities.
And while racing in water is a whole different thrill, beyond that, it’s about showing how clean energy can power the future of sports.
With big names like LeBron James, Will Smith, and Tom Brady as team owners, the championship is bringing a star-studded lineup to the water.
Why Did AlUla Get Involved?
AlUla is no stranger to bold ventures that intertwine its deep cultural roots with innovation. This ancient oasis is home to Hegra, the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has become a hub for adventure, culture, and history.
But AlUla isn’t just about preserving the past; it’s all about pushing boundaries. From hosting Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo to trail races, the city is making its mark on the global sports scene.
By partnering with the E1 Championship, AlUla is doubling down on its commitment to sustainability and showing the world it’s a destination that blends innovation with heritage.
Team AlUla Championed Is More Than Racing
While futuristic speedy boats are a big part of the equation, there is more to the Team AlUla Championed. By using electric technologies, the focus is on protecting and restoring urban waters and coastal areas. AlUla’s involvement reflects its focus on the environment, community, and conservation.
For LeBron, this aligns with the community-first approach he’s always championed. Whether it’s supporting education in his hometown of Akron or backing meaningful initiatives like this one, he’s making a difference in his own unique way.
What’s Next for Team AlUla?
Team AlUla, led by racers Rusty Wyatt and Catie Munnings, kicked off the season at the E1 Jeddah GP on January 24-25. From there, the team will head to iconic locations around the world, flying the flag for AlUla in places like Monaco, Doha, Miami, and Lake Como.
Why This Matters
This partnership is about reimagining what sports can do. It’s not just about winning races; it’s about raising awareness for sustainability, creating new opportunities for communities, and putting places like AlUla on the global map.
LeBron and AlUla are showing us that sports can go beyond competition; they can inspire real change.
