In Pictures: Iraqi Revolutionaries Transform Saadoun Tunnel Into an Outdoor Art Museum
As an Iraqi myself, I’ve been struggling to write about my beloved country for weeks now. I find it so hard to express my thoughts, there are no words that can help me speak up about what’s going on in my mind. I came across this bright, colorful wall of art on social media of what was once a dark and uninviting passage under Tahrir Square in Baghdad, Iraq.
The Saadoun Tunnel has become an art space that represents Iraq’s massive anti-government revolution. Along its walls, many young artists have drawn murals, portraits, and messages that examine the country’s tortured past, and the country we hope to create for the future.
