In Pictures: Colonel Ahmed El-Mansy, the Real Life Hero Behind Amir Karara’s ‘Al Ikhtiyar’
One of the most watched TV series in the Ramadan 2020 race is “Al Ikhtiyar” (The Choice), directed by Peter Mimi. From the first episode onwards, the audience has been hailing the main character, Amir Karara, for effectively portraying the role of Colonel Ahmed El-Mansy. The series sheds light on the legend’s personal life, which people don’t know much about.
Dubbed as ‘Mansy El Ostoura’ meaning Mansy the legend, Colonel Ahmed El-Mansy was the commander of Egypt’s Sa’ka Forces (Special Forces) battalion 103, and lost his life in July 2017 in clashes with militants during a violent terrorist attack in Rafah in North Sinai.
El-Mansy is known as a hero among Egyptians, due to his courage and bravery in defending his country in a number of security operations against militants, and for being a symbol of true dedication, selflessness, and nationalism. El-Mansy was buried in his army outfit, as per his desire.
