Five Arab Designers Behind The Hottest Red Carpet Looks

When we think about film festivals, usually the first things that come to mind are films, awards, and blooper moments; however, one of the elements that are also heavily scrutinized by the viewers as well as the people attending said festivals is the fashion. From organza-like dresses to classic satin figure-hugging gowns, we are highlighting the Arab designers that have dressed celebrities through Cannes and the Oscars, two of the biggest award seasons. Here is a rundown of some of these showstopping moments.

Georges Hobeika

Georges Hobeika is a brilliant Lebanese haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion designer. Hobeika’s atelier first opened in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1995, and has been showing his collections in Paris during the city’s official fashion weeks for almost a decade. Hobeika created another amazing impression with glittering outfits for the Lebanese television personality, Raya Abirached’s Cannes look. The enigmatic host was stunning in a strapless blue gown from Hobeika with a side wave and Bvlgari jewelry.

Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad, a Lebanese fashion designer based in Beirut, has made a name for himself internationally as well as among Hollywood’s biggest stars. Murad’s luxurious creations have become a favorite at celebrity red carpet events, and countless other celebrities have worn them. Kunis wore a gown from Zuhair Murad’s Spring/Summer 2022 couture line, which she accessorized with Messika’s glittering gems. A ruched one-shoulder bodice, built-in belt, and a lengthy train linked to a fitting skirt adorned the rose-colored silk gown.

Rami Al Ali

Rami Al Ali is a Syrian-born fashion designer whose designs have surely made the rounds on social media as he leads the way in the world of haute couture. On the red carpet this year, several celebrities were seen wearing the now Dubai-based designer’s creations. Hina Khan, the reality TV star, attended Cannes for the second time and was dressed by the renowned designer in a tight bodice and flowy costume. Maya Williams, a celebrity stylist, also wore a green satin halter-neck gown by Al Ali on the red carpet.

Elie Saab

Melita Nikolic, a film producer, wore a monochrome Elie Saab gown from the designer’s Resort 2022 collection at the Cannes Film Festival’s opening ceremony. Saab is a renowned Lebanese designer who needs no introduction. With a primary workshop in Lebanon, he also has workshops in Milan and Paris. He began his company in the early 1980s and focused on bridal couture. He is the first Arab to be admitted to the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the fashion industry’s regulating body.

Tony Ward

The Italian-Lebanese couture gowns were seen on two well-known celebrities; in the couture pieces, American actress Liza Koshy and American model Jasmine Tookes each stood out more than the other. This is the Tony Ward that we are talking about! He is known as “The Architect of Detail” as he draws inspiration from contemporary architecture to imagine sculptural forms, develop new techniques, and experiment with light and transparency.

As you can see, Arab designers have demonstrated their worth by dressing a number of worldwide celebrities and appearing in beautiful style and fashion…a genuine source of inspiration and pride for our region.
