Farewell ElNeny: Celebrating His Best Arsenal Moments

For 8 years, Egyptian footballer Mohamed ElNeny was part of one of the biggest soccer clubs in the world. Joining Arsenal in 2016, he became an integral part of the team as they competed in both the Premier League and Champions League. Today, he is saying his final goodbye to the club as he leaves Arsenal at the end of the season.

Reviving Arsenal To Top-Four Spot in Champions League

Knowing that Arsenal went six years without competing in the Champions League since the 2016-17 season, their return to the UEFA’s top-tier club tournament in the 2023-24 season was a big deal.

The team’s return was rocky at first, after disappointing losses to Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton, going three points behind. Luckily, one team member revived the club, it was the unlikely hero, ElNeny.

ElNeny’s Successful Stamford Bridge Clash

In the Champions League, Arteta called on Elneny for the first time in over three months during a tricky clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Once on the pitch, the midfielder rewarded his manager’s choice with a brilliant display.

ElNeny never stopped running. Not just that, throughout the match, he put the opposing team under pressure in what ended up being a 4-2 victory that ignited Arsenal’s revival.

His Performance Celebrated By Arsenal Legend Ian Wright

His exceptional performance during that season was very special to the point that it got the attention of Arsenal legend Ian Wright who said: ‘(Granit) Xhaka was magnificent, (Martin) Odegaard did his stuff again, but Elneny – he came in today and was dependable, professional, he never lets the team down’.

His Incredible Passing Accuracy In Leeds

In that very same Champions League, during a match against Leeds he had a passing accuracy of 97.5%. Even with the three matches prior to Leeds, he carried on that acuarcy.

As a midfielder, ElNeny may not have scored many goals throughout his Arsenal career but as seen in this article, his victories shown through in other ways. It is unknown where the player is heading next in his career but seeing how fruitful his Arsenal career was, we feel he will only continue to rise from here.
