Egyptians Say What They Think About Women in the Famous Ripped Jeans and It’s Disgusting
For the last couple of days, a photo of ripped jeans at Pull & Bear has been making headlines. A girl posted the jeans with a rip at the very top of the back of the thigh, adding that this is fashion in Egypt. As usual, everyone freaked out, even though it could have been simply a flawed pair and our newsfeeds as we knew them were never the same again.
Honestly, some of the statuses and memes regarding the pros and cons of such a rip were hilarious, but then someone had to come along and wipe the smile right off our faces. A reporter at dotmisr.com asked people in the streets what they thought of the jeans, for which the replies were expected.
The biggest issue was when he asked them how they would react if they saw a girl in the street wearing a pair like this. One of the men interviewed said he can’t know what he’ll do until he actually sees her, another said he’ll hit her because she is a fagra, and then an embarrassment of a human being said he would rape her and the reporter actually smiled and they aired it. WTF.
Now we totally understand that walking around with a rip under you bottom will not be a good experience in the Egyptian streets, but for a digital media outlet to support and encourage comments about rape and harassment, which women have been fighting for years in this country, just shows how hopeless things are on the larger scale.
WE SAID THIS: Career suicide, guys!
