Egyptian Tennis Champion Mayar Sherif Advances To Third Round Of 2023 Madrid Open

For the first time in her career, Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif advanced to the third round of the Madrid Open 2023. Bringing her A-game in the second round, Sherif defeated her Ukrainian opponent Anhelina Kalinina by winning two sets. Two years ago, Sherif managed to once again reach the 2nd round in the tournament but had to drop out after she got defeated by Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maya.

Known as “Egypt’s Golden Girl”, Sherif was able to put Egypt on the global tennis map through a slew of impressive accomplishments including becoming the first Egyptian woman in the field of tennis to qualify for the Olympics as well as the first Egyptian woman to nab a WTA title.

Today, she continues to break strides and make a name for herself in the tennis world. Following her win of the 2nd round in the Madrid Open, Sherif is now geared to face French player Carolina Garcia, ranked 5th in the world, in the upcoming 3rd round. Be sure to tune in and watch the game.
