As Egyptians we are known to make light of the most tragic situations and turn it into something humurous, but is there a thin line between being funny and being insensitive?
An Egyptian couple attempted to be creative and take humour to a new level with an act at their wedding that left everyone in shock.
A Groom surprised his wife by playing the ISIS National Anthem and had people dressed up as ‘Jihadists’ dancing around with plastic knives. They even went so far as to have a cage placed on the dance floor, and the head jihadist forces the bride and groom into it as part of the act.
Seconds later, Egyptian music is played and the bride and groom are seen dancing in the cage.
Ahmed Shihata, explains that the act was not making light of the recent deaths of Egyptians by these extremists, but merely meant to ridicule ISIS and show them how we are not afraid of them. Shihata was trying to prove that Egyptian humour will always prevail, no matter how tough the situation is.
Maybe his intentions were innocent, but all I know is that if I were the bride, I would’ve walked out that moment, then and there!
