Egypt Gets Its First Summit Sign on Sinai’s Mount Catherine
The adventurous folks over at Destination 31 have placed a summit sign on Egypt’s highest peak, Mount Catherine, making it the country’s first and only summit sign.
“It’s actually a big deal for the adventure travel community,” Destination 31’s Lina El Menshawy told us. “Most of the countries we visit, when you climb to the highest summit, there’s always a summit sign and you take pictures with it. Egypt has never had a summit sign.”
At 2,642 meters, Mt. Catherine is Egypt’s tallest mountain and a must-see destination for locals and tourists alike. It’s located near the city of St. Catherine in South Sinai.
“For the past seven years, one of Destination 31’s goals has been to promote Egypt as an adventure travel destination,” they wrote on Facebook. “It’s about time that Mount Catherine in Sinai, Egypt’s highest point at 2642m, receives it’s very own summit sign on its peak. We invite the hiking community to hike up and take your summit photo with Mount Catherine’s summit sign. Join us and let’s put Egypt on the adventure map!!”
