Back With a Bang: Cairo’s Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival Is A Feast For Sore Eyes
Cairo’s Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival kicked off earlier in October, and art enthusiasts are more than happy to see it coming back with a bang. Cairo’s cultural season seems to keep flowing in endless motion as event after event takes Downtown Cairo by storm. This year’s rendition of Cairo’s Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival is a long awaited one, after it was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 lock down measures and precautions.
D-CAF is an independent festival initiated by a group of many independent entities. It hosts a plethora of artistic performances transcending multiple media platforms. From theater and dance performances to music concerts, visual arts, film screenings, talks and workshops, D-CAF has got it all. Hosting many international artists, D-CAF is a world renowned festival backed by the likes of the British Council, Institut Français, Goethe Institut, Pro Helvetia, and numerous foreign embassies. The festival usually takes place every spring, but due to pandemic delays, the version scheduled for last year is now finally seeing the light. This year’s D-CAF is home to exclusive and impressive talks and workshops such as environmental and cultural organization workshops, talks on international touring, and much more. Of the notable performance art shows scheduled to take place are neo-puppet shows like the Danish Corpo Surreal Enchantments, and the world premiere of the Syrian-French performance of The One Who Lived In The House Before Me. The festival will run until the 22nd of October. Got your tickets booked yet?
