Billboard Arabia’s ‘Sounds of the Land’ Album Showcases the Diversity of Arab Landscapes Through Music

The launch of Billboard Arabia, the platform celebrating artists with Arab roots, was a major event in the region. Today, the excitement continues as they prepare a new project: a never-before-done music experience.

Meet ‘Sounds of the Land’

Dubbed ‘Sounds of the Land,’ for the first time, the landscapes of the Arab world will be celebrated through the art of music. The Billboard Arabia team put on their cartographic hats, analyzed maps of the Arab world, and used topographic techniques to draw data from five iconic regions in the MENA.

That data was then turned into unique sounds that got carved onto vinyl recordings. This new concept will allow diverse landscapes to be heard as sounds.

The Landscapes

Bringing in the music community, Billboard Arabia invited artists and music producers to create one-minute tracks featuring the sounds of iconic landscapes. So far, 20 samples showcase the beauty and diversity of the Arab world on the website.

They include the sounds of AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s archaeological marvel, Luxor, Egypt’s ultimate tapestry of its ancient world, and Tinghir, Morocco’s verdant oasis.

Future Plans

Billboard Arabia doesn’t want to just stop there; they have big plans to produce a 10-track ‘Sounds of the Land’ album. The album will come to life through the platform’s partnership with Gamma, a modern media and technology enterprise, and the music community’s participation.

The 10 songs will each be in the spotlight, as each one will be released separately throughout the year. It’s a true ode to the diverse and gorgeous landscape of the Arab world, one that’ll introduce it to the globe in a completely new light.
