Aswan International Film Festival To Shine Light On Arab Female Film Stars

The Seventh Aswan International Film Festival (AIWFF), which will run from March 5 to 10, is set to kick off with an emphasis on cinematic works that highlight women’s challenges, celebrate their success stories, and encourage female filmmakers throughout Egypt and the MENA region. Originally launched in 2017, where it is accessible for residents of Upper Egypt the festival will also be offering various filmmaking workshops.

Several movie stars, including the famed Tunisian producer and director Selma Baccar, will be honored during the festival. She directed movies such as Fatma 76 (1976), The Fire Dance (1995), Flower of Oblivion (2005), and El Jaida (2017). Her career has had a significant impact on the film industry in the Middle East serving as an inspirational figure for aspiring female directors.

Nabila Ebeid, a veteran Egyptian actress, will also be honored for her legendary performances in the Golden Age of Egyptian and Arab cinema where she contributed to a significant number of films that addressed women’s issues.

Egypt Today reported that TV presenter Dorria Sharaf Eldin and the award-winning Dutch director, screenwriter, and producer Mijke De Jong will also be honored at the festival.
