To all the aspiring and ambitious female filmmakers in the making, this is an open invitation for you to apply in the upcoming Rough-Cut Workshop held by the Cairo International Women’s Film Festival (CIWFF).  So if you’re currently working on your first production’s rough-cut, this workshop is an audiovisual consultation with an aim to support independent filmmakers like you. You just need to fit into the two main criteria; you have to be an Arab and you have to be a woman.

The workshop aims to provide support for the filmmakers regarding the content of their films and its development. Six women will be chosen to participate in the workshop that will be part of the 11th Edition of CIWFF, which will be held from the 5th till the 7th of March. The selected participants will engage in debates discussing each others’ work. Their projects will also be discussed with an International jury made up of professionals specialized in several areas, such as directors, editors and cinema critics. In addition to providing a clearer vision, the jury will also select winning film(s). The lucky winners will be those who submit the most developed work on both the editing and artistic levels. The festival will offer post-production facilities as the First Award and as for the Second Award, it will be a monetary prize worth €1,000 to support the final cut.

The presence of such a workshop aims to compensate the shortage of film schools and workshops in the market; whether in Egypt or the rest of the region. Not to mention that the initiative empowers Arab women, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. In addition to the beneficial creation of consultation networks between female filmmakers worldwide and in the region.

Its aim is to support female filmmakers, not just in Egypt and not just in the Middle East, but all around the world. The festival which is the first of its kind in the region, has held many screenings worldwide, showcasing a variety of productions including feature films, short films, documentaries, and animations.
