Back when we were students, we used to listen to so many negative things about adult life (we still do) and how school days are the best days of anyone’s life. Well, mine definitely weren’t, and I’m okay with it.

In order to prove Aunt Sameera wrong that school days don’t necessarily have to be “a7la ayam 7ayatna,” I’ve asked Egyptian graduates whether they miss it or not and here’s what they said.

“I don’t miss the bubble mentality, the controlled and limited environment and culture. I’m so glad I graduated and will not go through this sh*t again.”
“We were made to do things we don’t want, I hated the intrusion and them thinking they can control every aspect of your life.”
“I don’t miss the method of teaching; the time I had to waste on homework that is retarded was ridiculous. I always longed for freedom to choose what to learn, and never had it granted.”
“I always thought the authority that comes with seniority at school was meaningless.”
“I don’t miss not being able to process complaints about the system because they gang up on students.”
“I don’t miss the bullying – from both students and members of staff.”
“The censorship and the lack of privacy with personal life.”
“I don’t miss people; the clones (and being one to fit in/be left alone) and I don’t miss the lack of choice with people I’m friends with”
“I don’t miss the lack of proper breaks and I don’t miss anything to do with the place.”
“I don’t miss the lack of freedom over looks, attire, language and interests.”
“I don’t miss the educational and administrative red tape”
“To be honest, I enjoy every phase of my life – but I didn’t enjoy school one bit.”

WE SAID THIS: I rest my case.
