Egypt faces a number of challenges but the overpopulation, in particular, is rarely discussed. However, on Tuesday, the Director of Al-Azhar International Islamic Center for Population Studies and Research, Gamal Aboul Sorour, urged religious institutions and social organizations to take part in spreading awareness about the population crisis.

During the Cultures Discussion Forum, organized by the Coptic Evangelic Organization for Social Services, Aboul Sorour also mentioned that the Ministry of Endowments set a plan in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population to launch caravans and seminars raising awareness on population growth in rural areas. In addition, he highlighted the importance of scholars at Al-Azhar University to prioritize today’s problems including overpopulation.

“The population in Egypt is currently growing at a rate of 2.6 million individuals per year,” said the Deputy Health Minister, Tarek Mohamed, in a televised interview on January 2018.

WE SAID THIS: Egypt is almost 100 million people. So, now it’s probably the time to take action and move forward on the matter.
