Egypt will witness a total lunar eclipse on Sunday, 7 September, aligning with the full moon of Rabiʿ al-Awwal 1447 AH, the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics has announced.
The eclipse will last five hours and 27 minutes, with the full eclipse spanning one hour and 22 minutes. In Cairo, it begins with the penumbral phase at 4:28 pm, partial at 5:35 pm, totality from 6:44 pm to 7:37 pm, and ends with the final penumbral phase at 9:53 pm.
The spectacle will be visible across Egypt, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Americas, and beyond—anywhere the moon is above the horizon. Unlike solar eclipses, it can be viewed safely with the naked eye.
