Mohamed Salah is officially entering a new chapter.
After bringing the curtain down on an unforgettable nine-year spell at Liverpool, the Egyptian star has joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a two-year contract. The move takes Salah to the Süper Lig for the first time and makes him the fourth Egyptian player to wear the club’s famous maroon-and-blue shirt.
Now, after years of hearing “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” Salah is heading to Trabzon, where he has already embraced one of the club’s most famous chants: “Bize Her Yer Trabzon” — meaning, “Everywhere is Trabzon for us.”
And while Salah may be Trabzonspor’s biggest Egyptian signing yet, he is not the first to make the journey to the Black Sea club.
He is joining a club that already has a small but memorable Egyptian history. Before the Egyptian King arrived, three Egyptian players had already represented Trabzonspor: Ayman Abdelaziz, Sayed Moawad and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet.
Ayman Abdelaziz: The First Egyptian in Trabzonspor
Long before Salah’s arrival, Ayman Abdelaziz became the first Egyptian player to represent Trabzonspor.
The former Zamalek midfielder joined the Turkish club in January 2007 after playing for Gençlerbirliği. He spent around a season and a half with Trabzonspor, making 55 appearances and scoring twice before returning to Zamalek in 2008.
Abdelaziz was already familiar with Turkish football by then. His career in Türkiye included spells with several clubs, but Trabzonspor gave him the chance to become the first Egyptian to wear the maroon and blue.
At the time, no one knew he was starting what would become a very small but growing Egyptian connection.
Sayed Moawad: The Unexpected Route to Al Ahly
Next came Sayed Moawad.
The former Ismaily left-back joined Trabzonspor in early 2008 and made four appearances during a short spell with the club.
But his move to Türkiye was about more than simply starting a new chapter abroad.
At the time, Al Ahly had been trying to sign Moawad from Ismaily, but the transfer became complicated amid the intense rivalry between the two clubs. Trabzonspor eventually signed him after his initial loan spell, creating an indirect route that helped pave the way for his eventual move to Al Ahly.
So yes, Moawad’s time at Trabzonspor was brief — but it became an unexpected stop in one of Egyptian football’s most dramatic transfer stories.
Sometimes the transfer market really does need a plot twist.
Trezeguet: The Egyptian Who Made the Biggest Impact
More than a decade later, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet became the third Egyptian to join Trabzonspor.
The winger signed for the club from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 and quickly became an important part of the team.
Trezeguet brought goals, energy and plenty of memorable moments during his time in Trabzon. Across his spell, he made 76 appearances before leaving the club in 2025.
He also helped Trabzonspor win the Turkish Super Cup in 2022, adding silverware to what became the most successful Egyptian spell in the club’s history.
For many Trabzonspor fans, Trezeguet was not just another foreign signing. He became a key player — and now, his arrival has helped create a familiar Egyptian connection for Salah to follow.
Now, It’s Salah’s Turn
Trabzonspor may be generally considered Türkiye’s fourth biggest club after Istanbul giants Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, but the team is heading into the new season with big ambitions.
After finishing third in the Süper Lig last season, Trabzonspor are preparing for the Europa League playoff round — and Salah’s experience could give the club a major boost both domestically and in Europe.
The move also gives Salah a new challenge after a career filled with records, trophies and unforgettable moments.
He arrives as the biggest Egyptian name ever to play for Trabzonspor, following a path first opened by Ayman Abdelaziz, briefly continued by Sayed Moawad and strengthened by Trezeguet.
From one Egyptian to the next, the Trabzonspor connection has quietly grown over nearly two decades.
Now, the Egyptian King is wearing the maroon and blue — and the next chapter of his story has officially begun.
