It’s not every day a theme park in the Middle East gets called the best in the world—but that’s exactly what just happened. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi has taken home the 2026 Liseberg Applause Award, a title often described as the “Oscars” of the global attractions industry. It’s a first for the region, and honestly, a long time coming.

So, What Makes This Win a Big Deal?
The Applause Award, presented by IAAPA and originally established by Liseberg, isn’t handed out lightly. Since 1980, only a couple dozen parks worldwide have made the cut—and only one wins each cycle. Past names include giants like Tokyo DisneySea and Universal Studios Japan, so this puts Abu Dhabi firmly in that league.
What tipped the scales? It’s not just about rides. The award looks at the full package—operations, storytelling, innovation, and how memorable the experience actually feels once you’re inside.

More Than Just a Theme Park
Opened in 2018 and developed by Miral in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, the park has always leaned into immersion. Six themed lands, fully indoor (a blessing in Gulf summers), and a lineup that jumps from Gotham’s darkness to Looney Tunes chaos without missing a beat.
And there are already plans in motion for a Harry Potter-themed expansion, plus new DC rides.

The Bigger Picture
This says a lot about where Yas Island is heading and how seriously Abu Dhabi is playing the long game when it comes to tourism. Between rapid expansion and increasingly global recognition, the island is shifting to a must-stop destination.

A Win That Feels Like Momentum
This award validates years of building, investing, and—more importantly—getting people to actually care about the experience. And with what’s coming next, it’s clear this isn’t a one-off moment. It’s momentum.
