Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about relocating Palestinians from Gaza have sparked widespread condemnation, with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders calling it “ethnic cleansing” and a “war crime.” The statement has ignited debates on the ethical and legal implications of forced displacement.
Sanders Condemns Trump’s Proposal
In a post on X, Sanders stated, “Trump said he wants to ‘clean out’ Gaza and push the millions of Palestinians living there into neighboring countries. There is a name for this—ethnic cleansing—and it’s a war crime. This outrageous idea should be condemned by every American.”
The senator urged fellow lawmakers to take a stand against Trump’s remarks.
Global and Domestic Criticism
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also dismissed Trump’s remarks, calling them impractical. Meanwhile, France condemned the proposal, stating that forced displacement would be a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
Trump Insists on Palestinian Relocation
Despite widespread criticism, Trump reiterated his desire to relocate Palestinians to countries like Egypt and Jordan. He also announced plans to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on February 4.
Trump’s comments have reignited concerns about forced displacement and its impact on Palestinians. As Sanders goes vocal in his criticism, global leaders are also warning against the forced displacement of Palestinians as it violates international law and undermines the rights of Palestinians to remain on their land.
