Beyond the Olympics: Upcoming Summer Sporting Events the Region Will Be Taking Part In

2024 Esports World Cup – July 3 to August 25

Since July 3, the largest esports and gaming festival in the world has landed in Riyadh. Known as the Esports World Cup, multiple tournaments are currently taking place as the competition enters its third week.

Gamers from around the world are gathered to compete against each other in different games, including the PUBG Mobile World Cup, Fortnite, Street Fights, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. These teams will be competing for some major loot, including prizes that go as high as 3 million US dollars.

UFC Fight Night – August 3 

The 18th UFC event to grace the UAE as a whole will be hitting up Abu Dhabi during its very own UFC Fight Night. Bringing the heat, the event will take place on August 3rd at the Etihad Arena.

On that day, international and local talent will bout it out inside “The Octagon,” and if the UFC 294 bout is anything to go by, this one will also see a riled-up and excited crowd. Ooredoo Stars League – August 9 till 23

Going head to head on the football pitch, Qatar’s top-level football championship, known as the Ooredoo Stars League, will see the country’s football clubs hit up the pitch starting on August 9. The set of matches will take place until 23 August 2024.

Some of the clubs that will compete on the pitch include Al Rayyan, Umm Salal, and Al Khor. Tickets are still not out, but stay tuned and be ready; they will be announced soon.

AlUla Desert BlazeAugust 24

Nothing beats cheering on passionate runners as they attempt to reach the finish line. You can get to experience that in one of the most prominent hot spots of Saudi Arabia, AlUla. This summer, the AlUla Desert Blaze, a road race in the scorching heat of the desert, will take place.

Racers will be pushed to the limits, competing against each other. They can choose from four distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. Their course will cut through AlUla’s famous sites, such as Hegra and Maraya, helping runners get a taste of history as they compete for the win.

Qatar Legends League Championship – Sept 1 to 30

If you are a fan of cricket, this is the event for you. The Legends League Championship is coming in September, and legendary cricket players will compete in a major competition. So far, the venue has not been announced, so stay tuned and keep an eye out.
