Zuckerberg’s First Tweet In A Decade Takes Aim At Musk’s Twitter As He Launches “Threads”

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has just taken a playful jab at his business rival Elon Musk on Twitter, or rather, his company’s new app, Threads. It was his first tweet since January 18, 2012. In a clever move, Zuckerberg posted a popular Spider-Man meme in which two identical Spidermen are pointing at each other. No caption was needed to understand the reference to Threads’ launch as a direct competitor with Twitter.

Zuckerberg’s vision for Threads is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new space for text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind. The platform is visually similar to Twitter, with users posting status updates that can be liked, commented on, reposted, and shared. Zuckerberg shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Zuckerberg’s ultimate goal for Threads is to create a public conversations app with over 1 billion users. Despite being in its early stages, the app has already attracted over 10 million users within the first few hours of its launch, which is an impressive start. “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it,” he said on Threads. “Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully, we will.”

With the social media rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk heating up, it’ll be interesting to see how Twitter responds to Threads’ challenge. Will Threads be able to gather the 1 billion+ users that Zuckerberg envisions? Only time will tell.
