Acclaimed Egyptian Director Samir Seif Passes Away at 72

Veteran Director Samir Seif passed away yesterday evening at the age of 72; the cause of his death was determined to be the result of sudden cardiac arrest.

From writing scripts to directing films, Seif has had quite the cinematic career. His contributions include Qetta Ala Nar (1977), Gharib Fi Baity (1982), El-Mashboh (1983), El-Halfout (1985), El-Nemr wal-Ontha (1987), El-Moulid (1989), El-Shaitana Allaty Ahabatny (1990), Shams El-Zanaty (1991), Maaly El-Wazir (2002), and Deil El-Samaka (2003).

With names from the caliber of Nour El-Sherif, Adel Imam, and Soad Hosny, the late icon has collaborated with many leading actors and actresses of the time to bring about the Egyptian 80’s golden era of film.

The Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem mourned the death of Seif, stating that he “was a good teacher for the younger generations and several creative directors”.

The deceased was renowned for his artistic methods in bringing a piece of work to the big screen. He directed enriching films that held deeper, more profound meaning. To this day, Seif’s films are still a staple of Egyptian and Arab cinema, forever holding his memory alive.
