Meet the ‘Beyonce of Ancient Egypt’
This is “Tamut” (her full name is Tayesmutengebtiu), the official singer of Egypt’s Temple of Karnak in 900 BC.
Dubbed the “Beyonce of Ancient Egypt”, Tamut was a massive celebrity, had enviable style, a weave and, as per usual with the ancient Egyptian elites, was buried with her favorite bling.
Tamut’s story is only one of several being highlighted by the British Museum in their current exhibit, “Ancient Lives, New Discoveries”. Researchers implemented CT scans, 3d imaging and other new technology to uncover the history of eight mummies from Egypt’s Nile Valley.
