Weekly Football Round Up
Premiere League:
Manchester United has been knocked off the top spot on the table, after losing to Manchester City on April 30th. Roberto Mancini’s men are in the number one spot with 83 points, though tied with Manchester United at 83 points as well and trailing far behind is Arsenal. Man City plays Newcastle on May 6th, Mancini stresses the importance of this game as it could give his team the extra 3 points they need to step further ahead of Sir Alex’s boys. Also, there is really no need to mention this, but Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Norwich was, umm, surprising for Norwich, and a little embarrassing for Wenger’s team.
Liga:
Pep Guardiola had to say goodbye to the top of the rankings, as Mourinho’s team blazed to the top of the Spanish Liga standings. Real Madrid ended their season with an outstanding 94 points, Barcelona finished with 87 points, followed by Valencia with a shocking 58 points. There is a battle going on for fourth place, and it is most likely that Malaga will clinch the spot, despite losing 4-1 to Barcelona recently. With only two defeats in the entire season, and three strikers scoring about 20 goals each, props go to Real Madrid and ‘The Special One’.
Ligue 1:
I don’t watch French football, but I do check the standings in case something interesting happens (which it has not), so the rankings remain unchanged:
1) Montpellier – 73 points
2) Paris Saint Germain – 70 points
3) Lille – 68 points
Bundesliga:
Borussia Dortmund is still at the top with 81 points, followed by Champions League finalists Bayern Munich and coming in third is Schalke. (Like French football, I don’t follow the Bundesliga, hence the very concise commentary)
Serie A:
The Italian league is up and running again after the tragic passing of Livorno Midfielder Piermario Morosini. After the most recent set of games, the rankings are as follows: In the top spot… *sigh*, Juventus with 78 points, followed by AC Milan (double sigh) with 77 points and in third place and Napoli with 58 points. Where the hell is INTER? Jeez! May 6th is the Milan derby, so fingers crossed that Stramaccioni and his men can pull off something amazing and claim a victory, even though that won’t change much in the standings. Inter needs to stop losing.
