British Parliament Proposes to Lift Travel Ban to Sharm El-Sheikh

Egypt’s tourism has been on a downward spiral since the 2011 revolution. Only earlier this year, things started to take a positive turn after Russian President, Vladimir Putin, ordered to lift the travel ban to Egypt imposed in 2015.

The UK Foreign Office (FCO) currently advises against flying into Sharm El-Sheikh, yet on Saturday 11 at the World Travel and Tourism Council in UK, a British member of parliament, Stephen Timms, suggested lifting the travel ban. The president of the Egyptian-British Parliamentary Friendship Association’s commented on the issue during a meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Tourism Rania Al-Mashat.

The two-year suspension came after a Russian jet incident that ended with the death of 224 passengers. Multiple European countries UK restricted flights to Sharm El-Sheikh over security reasons.  According to Timms, the association is working inside the House of Commons and the House of Lords to pressure the British government to lift Sharm El-Sheikh travel ban.
