Mommy Diaries: Picking Friends
I don’t care what people think about me!
We’ve all heard our more brazen friends say it. We’ve all thought it at some point in our lives. We’ve all argued about it with our parents at some point during our adolescent years.
But do we really?
I can only think of a few people that truly practice this mantra in their so-called cavalier lives. The rest talk the talk but hardly walk the walk. Its one thing to announce it among friends at a party and a whole other thing to live your life like that.
I remember growing up with friends that made my mother sick to her stomach. I also remember arguing with her all the time about how she didn’t know them the way I did. Looking back, I must say, she was right every time. The ones she thought smoked, smoked. If she thought one of my friends was a liar, she was. Obviously I never admitted any of that to her. That would mean she was right.
So anyways, looking at my girls now, I feel like I owe my mother an apology. Not only do I want to pick their friends, I want to stop them from any interaction with anyone that doesn’t tickle my fancy.
A bit controlling? Yes please. Crazy? Sure, I’m ok with that. And with the technology we’ll have then, I could probably do all that from the palm of my hand.
Cue evil laugh.
