24 Hour Ban on Tobacco in Dubai

0

Dubai Municipality is banning the sale of tobacco products for 24 hours in the entire emirate in coherence with the World No Tobacco Day on Thursday, May 31.

World No Tobacco Day is an annual event that takes place on May 31 much like Earth Day. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to 5.4 million deaths worldwide annually. The member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) in 1987. In the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance across the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry.

While this might come as an economic burden on some countries because tobacco is one of the fastest moving consumer goods, the Dubai  Municipality  feels that is good in playing such a role in the global community and trying to decrease smokers everywhere.

WE SAID THIS: Do you think Egypt would ever do something like this?
