17 Egyptian Moms Tell Us What They Really Think Happens in Parties
It’s our favorite time of the year. Summer has come, and for years the beach season meant nothing but one party after the other. One thing we’ve started relating to recently is Egyptian moms’ fear of nightlife. Every overly protective mom we ever made fun of now sounds very similar to the thoughts that run through our heads. It’s 2016, times have changed, the millennials have a completely different life attitude than ours and we need to understand what exactly parents think happens at Egyptian parties.
We asked 17 Egyptian moms and some of the replies were hilarious and so 1980s, however karma sucks and these moms are me in 20 years:
“Shorb, ra2s and taharosh odam Elamaken”
“Malyata”
“Banat 3ryana we regala sakrana”
“Msh 3rfa ana begad bakhaf afakar”
“Whatever happens I trust my kids and I know if things get out of control they’ll leave”
“I’m never worried about what my daughter will see at parties, she sees worse in her school. By3melo kol haga”
“I believe most men have one goal: yezabato”
“When I see what my daughter’s friends wear, my heartbeat hits the roof. I’m always worried about being harassed”
“Heya tarbeya. If parents raise their kids well then it doesn’t matter where they go, you need to trust their judgement”
“I trust my son. I’m hardly ever worried when he goes out, but mosalsalat like Ta7t ElSaytara scares me. I feel I have to keep a very close eye on him, you never know who he’ll befriend”
“It depends on the place. Times have changed, there are places that are relatively safe for women, however it’s not the guys I’m worried about, it’s the drugs and young women’s influential attitude”
“It took me years to allow my kids to go to parties. All of their friends are exposed to this world, they feel secluded, so every now and then I allow them to party and I hate it”
“If you think only girls’ parents panic, you’re wrong. Elwelad betgeblak all sorts of masayeb men a3det elshabab”
“Elmoshkela en el3eyal nesyo enohom fe Masr. They think sex, alcohol and drugs are part of being cool. I hate Egypt’s nightlife”
“Regli 3la regl 3eyali. I always go out at night, they hate that I’m that clingy but I’ve seen a lot in my youth and I know the kind of sh*t that goes on”
“I don’t care. They’re never going”
“Whatever happens there, my main concern is coming home late we kalam elnas. I trust her, but I don’t trust people”
