UAE’s Sheikh Mohammed Wants to Appoint a Minister Under 25 Years Old
In the first move of its kind in the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, tweeted on Wednesday that he is seeking university seniors or fresh graduates for a ministerial position to represent the youth.
“Our young country was built by the hands and achievements of youth,” he wrote. “Youth is our strength and speed and our treasure for the future.”
He made an appeal for universities to nominate three men and three women under the age of 25 for an appointment as a minister to represent the issues and ambitions of the country’s young people.
While the UAE government maintains a Ministry of Culture, Youth and Social Development, headed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the federal cabinet has never before included a minister under 25 years old.
“Youth represents some half of our Arab societies, so it is only logical to give them a voice and role in governing the nation,” he tweeted.
