UAE Announces Mandatory Military Service for Males
The UAE has announced compulsory military service for all UAE male nationals aged 18 years and older or who are high school graduates. The term will be nine months for high school grads and two years for non-graduates, while military service will remain voluntary for females.
The announcement was made earlier today on Twitter by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s ruler and the vice president and prime minister of the UAE.
Meanwhile, Qatar announced a pending law in November that would enact compulsory military service for all Qatari males between 18- and 35-years-old and Kuwait is also reportedly considering reinstating its mandatory military service after it was dismissed in 2001.
