On Sunday, Tahrir Square witnessed yet another turning point in Egyptian history: the moment we added one more failure to a long list of others including Abdel Atty’s AIDS Kofta and all of Sobky’s movies.
After seven years of work on a project that involved about 21 people, the whole world witnessed as Egypt’s groundbreaking car “الوحش المصري” which translates to “The Egyptian Monster”, that is supposedly designed to operate on land, in the water and in the sky failed to even move on the ground more than a few feet.

The inventor of “the monster”, Ashraf al-Bendary is an Egyptian poet, who apparently also believes he’s a genius mastermind, claimed that the car -and we’re using the term car loosely – ran on self-generated energy and reached a top speed of 120km/hour, but the test in Tahrir Square showed otherwise.

Of course, the internet went crazy making fun of the car and criticizing it, its inventor and the government for encouraging the project.
