Sip & Dip: Bite Size Happiness

0

The saying goes ‘You either eat to survive or survive to eat’, here at scoop we happen to be a little of both but me personally… Well let’s just say I like to make sure I am always satisfying whatever out of the box craving I am having at the time.

We were invited to the opening of the newest ‘go to’ place in Masr El Ghedida, Sip’n Dip. Small yet good enough of a size that tables are not on top of one another and you have your space to breathe. The venue is decorated with a mix of vibrant lime green, an eclectic graffiti like mural spun on the walls and an overall clean cut look that gives the feel of modern comfort.

The ambiance is mixed with old school Amy Winehouse tunes in the background, where we were graced with a live ‘Jam, freestyle’ from performance by Malaleem and were told that this was a norm at the venue, being one of those places that celebrates all that is art. I found this very interesting as the idea of an open stage for anyone to perform as they please is a rarity in a city that truly celebrates music and theatrics in the way Cairo does. I was informed that there would be a weekly schedule that would incorporate ‘Jam Nights’ where you could bring your instrument, or even be part of the crowd and sing along. This schedule would also incorporate a ‘game night’ as the place is equipped with multiple board games to choose from making it ideal for big groups to come and spend a quality evening out.

Being media we definitely get perks beyond the common man (not as many as you would think.. But still!!)  so we got to sample the menu, starting with a bowl of nacho’s and Jalapeno Cheese dip. Now I am not one for the spicy stuff, but lets just say the bowl was finished pretty fast, giving just a hint of spice the cheese dip is creamy, warm and lets say is a cheese lovers dream.

Appetizers next, we were braced with a mix of Cheese Sambousak, Spring rolls and Kobeba with an array of dip’s to choose from. All homemade the mixture was delicious with a media buddy and I actually picking up a few from the table next to us. I soon came to realize that everything was bite size in the venue. When discussing with he owners what their concept was they broke down that Sip & Dip is meant to give you little treats to choose from, focused more on the dips you can then dip in. The idea is giving the customer a choice as people are constantly torn between what to order and yet are looking for something satisfying and most of the time to share with friends.

This concept was even more amplified when the main courses were brought on. Serving burger sliders and mini Shawerma’s I fell in love. If you are anything like me you will be the girl at the table that suggests what you should order EVERYTHING just so that I can have a bite or we can ‘share’. This place was idle for just that, as it meant that I could have my cake and eat it too!

Dessert was an array of chocolate delights with ready set chocolate fountains on the side running the entire night (genius) please note I had dessert 3 times.. DON’T JUDGE ME! Chocolate & Caramel Crepe, preferred the chocolate to be honest felt the caramel was too rich and last but not least home made chocolate brownie with a big scoop of Vanilla and chocolate heavenly drizzles to seal the deal. Yes food coma is the right word!

Sip & Dip is perfect for anyone looking to take their laptop and disappear from the world for a couple hours. At night I would suggest getting a group of friends together escaping the cold and playing an good old board game, or if you are in too music checking out their schedule and what local band is making an appearance that night.

We need more places that are not trying to be something else, that have an identity and stick to it, I hope Sip’n Dip does not deviate from just that as if it stays this could be a great spot for all the locals in the area especially when it comes to weekend’s & brunch.

Check out their Page for more details.

We can’t fail to mention, that they are really reasonably priced, being able to walk away having ordered enough to keep you full, under 100 l.e. (we all know that is quite a feet these days)
