The World Bank’s annual report on global environmental indicators, The Little Green Data Book, was released last week revealing some shocking data. Miraculously, our beloved Egypt didn’t top the global air pollution rankings. And it wasn’t China or India, either. Surprisingly, it was the United Arab Emirates.

The report measured miniscule airborne pollutants smaller than 2.5 microns. The Middle East had the worst results, with the air in the UAE containing 80 micrograms of pollutant per cubic meter.

China had slightly lower results with 73 micrograms and, believe it or not, Egypt only scored 33 micrograms of pollutant per cubic meter, which is less than half of the UAE’s.
