People in the UAE Don’t Have to Go to Jordan Anymore to Experience Petra
Petra, once known as the lost city, has many legends. There are tales of buried treasures; that it once hosted a strange cult of the dead; or that its mysterious whispers are owed to a mystical Jinn hiding out in its caves, and much more. Stepping into the ancient world of the Arab Nabataeans is a must for everyone, except people in the UAE, because Petra is coming right to them.
The exhibition, which will run until March 16, is a collaboration between Sharjah Museums Department and the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. It will feature sculptures, statues, architectural remnants and much more in an attempt to promote cross-cultural exchange between Arab societies. Pieces on show reveal just how impressive Petra’s Great Temple was between 300BC and 106AD, including its complicated underground plumbing system, which provided a supply of drinking water during droughts.
“We are extremely proud to partner with the Department of Antiquities in Jordan to bring this significant exhibition to Sharjah,” says Manal Ataya, director general of Sharjah Museums Department.
