Netanyahu’s Hernia Surgery Ignites Debate: From Well-Wishes to Political Accusations

What happens when a controversial public figure undergoes surgery? Well, when it came to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the world was on the edge of its seat.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had hernia surgery, which he’s currently recovering from, a surgery that got the world’s attention. His hernia was discovered during a routine checkup, and during the surgery, he was unconscious and under full anaesthesia.

The moment the world found out about his surgery, across social media, whether in the comments or posts themselves, many wished he’d never wake up. Some of the comments included, “I’ve NEVER wished for someone to not wake up from a surgery. But today, I do.”

On the other end of the spectrum, many wanted him to be awake but for specific reasons. During the surgery, families of Israelis held hostage in Gaza were staging a protest outside the Knesset building in Jerusalem.

They were calling for a deal to release their family, and with the timing of Netanyahu’s surgery, they felt he was deliberately sabotaging efforts to make an agreement with Hamas.

Beyond that, many Israelis and thousands of anti-government protesters took to the streets in Tel Aviv on Saturday, calling for his resignation and the resignation of the government as well as an early election.

As he recovers, only time will tell the fate of his government seat and Palestine.
