#MuscleUpForGood: An Egyptian Initiative Raising Funds For Prosthetics

The #MuscleUpForGood initiative was established by fitness advocate and motivational speaker Omar AbdelKader in collaboration with the Ne2dar initiative in hopes of shedding awareness on amputees. Omar and Ne2dar are on a mission to raise money to buy prosthetics for amputees in need.

Summer of 2016, Omar experienced a horrifying shark attack during his vacation in the Red Sea. He was immediately rushed to the Suez hospital, where he underwent a left leg amputation. Since then, Omar has been shedding light on physical/mental health and has been a significant voice for people with disabilities in Egypt.

Omar believes that every amputee should have access to medical assistance and prosthetic limbs, which can be very expensive. He hopes to provide as many prosthetics as he can through the initiative.

Omar is challenging public figures to do various bar movements like muscle ups and pushups. Whoever loses the challenge will pay 1 EGP for every like the video receives on Instagram. Omar is also preparing for a mega-record event in June at Ignite Egypt fitness center, which is yet to be announced.

Among the public figures participating in the challenge are actor Ahmed Dawoud, Abdelrahman Cavio founder of Hit Egypt, and fitness coaches Sherif Bendary and Yara Zoheiry. So far, they’ve raised almost 25k EGP and are still counting.

The initiative hopes to gain support from corporate partners in the future and give as many amputees as possible a chance to live life to the fullest. You can also participate in the initiative on social media by liking and sharing the challenge videos on @omarabdelkader_.
